We’re building Pellerin differently.

Pellerin Books was founded by people who have spent many years working across different publishers – large and small, traditional and digital-first. We’ve seen what works, what doesn’t, and what too often leads to burnout, high turnover, and talented people leaving the industry.

Our aim is to create a publishing house where people can do ambitious, meaningful work and build long-term, sustainable, enjoyable careers – a place people are happy and proud to be part of, not one they feel they need to escape from.

So what does “different” actually look like? Here’s how we put it into action

1. We design for sustainability, not burnout

We know that great publishing needs energy, rigour and care. We avoid burnout by offering generous holiday allowances, using smart systems from the outset, and trusting our team to work in the way that suits them.

2. We deliberately cap workloads

We maintain a maximum ratio of authors to staff, so no-one is stretched too thin. This allows our teams to do their jobs properly, with care, focus, and attention – for authors, for books, and for each other.

3. We value long-term relationships

We’re not interested in churn. We want to build a small, highly skilled team who grows with the company over time. That means investing in people, trusting them with responsibility, and giving them space to do their best work.

4. We’re transparent about pay

We believe transparency builds trust. That’s why we publish our salary bands and are committed to fair, equitable compensation across the business. (You’ll find our current salary bands in the ‘Salary Bands’ section.’)

5. We’re remote-first, but not remote-only

Pellerin is a remote-first company, designed to hire brilliant people wherever they live. We also value connection, collaboration, and time together - with regular in-person meet-ups built into how we work.

We care deeply about the books we publish – and about the people who make that possible.

  • A generous holiday allowance of 35 days (plus bank holidays & Christmas), including a 4-week consecutive break to fully unplug and recharge.
  • Transparent salary banding and a commitment to pay equity
  • Remote-first working with regular in-person meet-ups (we hire nationally)
  • A values-led, burnout-conscious workplace with collaboration, fairness, and care at its core
  • Roles with clear priorities, realistic expectations and creative freedom
  • A chance to help shape a new publishing company from the ground up

We publish our salary bands as part of our commitment to transparency and fairness.

These are reviewed annually and adjusted in line with cost-of-living changes and the growth of the business to ensure they remain fair, competitive and realistic.

Pellerin Books is new, but it’s built on decades of experience.

We also work with a small group of trusted freelancers and collaborators across cover design, marketing, production and editorial (development editing, copyediting, proofreading). We like to build long-term creative partnerships and treat our freelancers as part of the wider team.
