The deal covers books one to six of Arnold’s Captain Stryker historical adventure series — originally published by Hodder — which will be republished in 2026, and two brand new novels for 2027. Set during the English Civil War, the series follows hardened Royalist officer Captain Innocent Stryker as he navigates shifting loyalties, brutal campaigns and the moral ambiguities of a country tearing itself apart.
The first new book, The King’s Renegade, will publish in January 2027. Set in the aftermath of the Royalist defeat at Marston Moor, the story finds Stryker imprisoned in London’s notorious Clink Prison, where survival is not guaranteed. As the war grinds on beyond the prison walls, Stryker is forced back into the conflict, confronting enemies old and new in a fight for freedom, loyalty and survival. Combining muscular action with meticulous historical detail, this will grip readers of David Gilman, Giles Kristian or Bernard Cornwell’s Sharpe, to whom Stryker is often compared.
Laura and Jessie said: “Michael Arnold is a master of historical adventure. His Civil War novels deliver exactly what readers of the genre want — relentless momentum, a compelling central character and a deep, authentic understanding of the period. The Captain Stryker books already have a loyal following, and we’re excited to give the series fresh energy, new packaging and extra investment to introduce a new generation of readers to Stryker’s story.”
Michael Arnold said: “I’m enormously thankful for the continued enthusiasm around these books, and for the opportunity to partner with Laura and Jessie on this new venture. I’m incredibly proud of the series, and I can’t wait to continue Stryker’s story with two fresh instalments.”
